continuous positive airway pressure or “cpap”

Continuous Positive Airway Pressure or “CPAP” is, bar none, the safest most effective method of treating obstructive sleep apnea or “OSA.”  A CPAP machine gently blows air into your nose or mouth to keep your airway from collapsing during sleep. For patients with OSA, the airway becomes relaxed or compressed, and repeatedly constricts or closes altogether, thereby interfering with the ability to breathe continuously and freely while sleeping. These repeated breathing interruptions decrease the body’s oxygen levels and destroy it’s ability to achieve the restful and restorative sleep we all need. By increasing the air pressure in the airway to a specific level, it is prevented from closing or becoming blocked, giving the patient an unfettered supply of air.

A CPAP machine uses a small, quiet air blower, connected through a hose to a mask that you wear while you sleep. It’s not as unpleasant as it may sound – the vast majority of CPAP users get used to the sensation quickly. More importantly, patients who faithfully use their CPAP improve nearly every other important bodily function. Better sleep is achieved and the body receives all the oxygen it needs. Moreover, at Sleep Rite, we make it easy to stick to the therapy. The machines we offer are sleek, compact and modern. We custom fit our patients with the very best masks in the industry, and we are always available to address any concerns or problems they may encounter. To top it off, we stay in contact with our patients by phone and mail long after their study to insure their CPAP supplies are replenished, often at no additional cost.
